JOB TITLE:            Lead Statistical Geneticist

REPORTS TO:        Chief Scientific Officer

FLSA STATUS:       Exempt

SALARY:                Depends on Experience


BACKGROUND:

Juneau Biosciences is a genetic research company in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Our clinical focus relates to women’s health and our goal is to develop molecular diagnostics and predictive tests to help improve the well-being and quality of life of women affected by Endometriosis, Preterm Labor and other similar conditions.


SUMMARY:

The successful candidate will work as part of our team developing a molecular genetic prognostic test for Endometriosis and discovering the genes and regulatory mechanisms underlying this condition.  They will provide leadership in the design, development and implementation of Juneau’s diagnostic and prognostic algorithms.  They will develop and implement multivariate statistical approaches for the identification of disease susceptibility loci.  Other responsibilities include statistical consulting and support for ongoing lab projects.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Maintaining large phenotypic and genotypic databases.

•Performing data analysis on genotypic and phenotypic datasets.

•Developing statistical analysis plans.

•Producing statistical analyses and summaries and write formal statistical reports to investigators.

•Working with project team to develop and implement reusable programs, scripts, and processes.

REQUIREMENTS:

•The applicant must demonstrate the ability to design and manage scientific projects, estimate work requirements and complete work on a timely basis.

•Applicant must have strong interpersonal skills and be an effective oral and written communicator.

•The applicant must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

•A PhD in Biostatistics, Genetics, Statistics, or closely related discipline with a strong track record of scientific publications.

•2 – 4 years experience and demonstrated knowledge of applied biostatics relevant to genetics including development of Analysis Plans. 

•Experience with Genome Wide Association Analysis (GWAS). 

•Experience with mixed effects model (MEM) and the generalized estimating equations (GEE). 

•Experience with most of the following techniques: programming (C, Python, Perl, BioPerl), genome-wide association analyses (PLINK, HelixTree, JMP), relational databases, statistics (R, SAS), DNA sequencing and analysis. 

•Experience managing and analyzing data from high-throughput technology platforms like Illumina, Affymetrix, Solexa and Roche 454.
